Starting a new activity can feel like a big step—for both children and parents.
One of the questions we’re asked most often is:
“What happens in my child’s first Little Tigers karate class?”
The good news is that every first lesson is designed to be fun, welcoming and completely beginner-friendly.
Our instructors understand that every child develops at their own pace, so there is never any pressure to get everything right straight away.
From the moment they arrive, we’ll help your child feel relaxed, supported and excited to learn.

A Warm Welcome
When your child arrives, we’ll greet them, introduce them to the class and help them settle into the lesson.
Some children walk straight onto the dojo with a big smile.
Others need a little more encouragement during those first few minutes.
Both are completely normal.
Our instructors are experienced at helping young children feel comfortable and confident in a new environment.
Learning Through Games
Little Tigers classes don’t feel like school.
Children learn through exciting games and carefully planned activities that keep them moving, smiling and engaged.
Every exercise has a purpose.
While children are having fun, they’re also developing:
- Balance
- Coordination
- Listening skills
- Confidence
- Focus
Most children don’t even realise how much they’re learning.
Simple Karate Techniques
Your child’s first class introduces a few basic karate movements.
These might include:
- Standing correctly
- Simple punches
- Basic blocks
- Moving safely
Everything is taught one step at a time.
There is no expectation that children remember everything after just one lesson.
The aim is simply to enjoy learning something new.
Building Confidence
One of the biggest benefits of Little Tigers karate is confidence.
Children quickly discover that it’s okay to make mistakes because everyone is learning together.
Every small achievement is recognised and celebrated.
That positive encouragement helps children enjoy coming back week after week.
Every Child Learns at Their Own Pace
No two children develop in exactly the same way.
Some children join in immediately.
Others build confidence a little more gradually.
That’s completely normal.
Our instructors adapt their teaching to each child, helping every Little Tiger enjoy success while developing at their own pace.
Wondering How Often Children Should Train?
Many parents ask how many lessons are best when children first start.
Little Tigers allows students to train up to three times a week for one monthly fee. That being said, it is absolutely fine and sometimes recommended to start with once a week when starting a new activity.
